Community-based cardiovascular health promotion in diverse communities
In 1979, the King County High Blood Pressure Control Program—now known as Sound Heart—was developed to provide blood pressure screenings for high-risk populations. In 1983, Sound Heart received an “Outstanding Achievement Award” from the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for its collaborative work with the American Heart Association and Public Health—Seattle & King County. Today, Sound Heart continues to promote cardiovascular health through community-based outreach, education, and blood pressure and cholesterol screenings in venues including community festivals and health fairs, community-based organizations, key businesses and public housing units in Seattle-King County.
